Christmas Cruise X

This was a rather historic cruise for us, in a number of ways. First, it was our tenth Christmas cruise and ten years of doing anything is pretty rare for us. So, this is one hobby that has graduated to an avocation or such.

Secondly, we had family along for the second time – this time, my nephew and his family. Since they’re very active and we’re … us, we probably won’t have many excursions in common, unlike traveling to Alaska with my sister-in-law and niece earlier this year.

Finally, it was our second voyage on the Norwegian Breakaway. We hadn’t sailed on the Breakaway since her maiden crossing of the Atlantic before going into service on the New York to Bermuda cruises. Her maiden crossing was important for a number of reasons – it was our first Transatlantic, it was our first maiden voyage (technically, she hadn’t been christened yet), and it was our first and only time the Upgrade Fairy called. We were in the Haven for the seven-day crossing, we met the CEO of the company, and it was quite the trip. We’ve upgraded since then, when possible. (The maiden voyage is documented on Mighty Ships, but we didn’t make the cut.)

This was also our first successful attempt at visiting Harvest Caye, which is Norwegian’s private island off the coast of Belize. We had two other cruises scheduled to call there, and the port wasn’t open yet. This time, we finally made it. Meh.
