Christmas 2016 – our eighth Christmas cruise, and fourteenth overall. This was supposed to be a Panama Canal partial transit, but we had to change cruises at the last minute. So, the bucket list item remains. In the meantime, we did basically the same journey as earlier in the year, only from a different port and on a different line. As you can see from the map, we basically circled Cuba, since cruises to there don’t start until next year (I have no real interest.)
So, Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel – again – with a bonus stop at Norwegian’s private island, Great Stirrup Cay. We also had an extra day at sea back to Miami, probably because there would be nothing worse than leaving the ship on Christmas morning. Picture children happily unwrapping gifts while Mom and Dad are trying to get them out of the room by 8am. We did basically 6 to 9 knots for two days – coasting. I was trying to find a nav chart that would show me if it was downhill from Cozumel to Miami, just to see if we were powered at all. This was the slow boat to Miami.
This was our second voyage on the Norwegian Getaway in two years, and it convinced me that I like the mid-size ships better (for Norwegian people, think the Jewel class.)
